What is InPlace?
InPlace is a complete placements solution for allocating, administering and managing students in work placements at Higher Education Institutes.
The student experience is of paramount importance when undertaking a higher education course, and the work experience component can drive learning and workplace readiness. The right tools help to ensure this process is managed as smoothly and effectively as possible, in turn providing the students with the best they can get out of their work experience.
The demands on Universities and Higher Education colleges around the world to provide Work Integrated Learning courses that better prepare students for the workforce is creating an increasingly burdensome workload on university administrators. Disciplines within the Faculty of Health Sciences or Faculty of Education and others contain mandatory work experience components. Many other courses contain elements of workplace experience ranging from brief observational attendance to full year work assignments.
The process is fundamentally simple but very complex in the detail.

There are significant benefits to Higher Education Institutions having a single enterprise wide application that controls the interaction with employers and students for the identification and management of professional placement opportunities.
InPlace provides functionality for managing the whole process including:
- Identifying demand for placements from disciplines
- Approaching employers to seek placement opportunities
- Managing the interaction with the employers in defining and creating positions
- Providing students the opportunity to express preferences about assignments, apply for suitable placements, seek approval for self sourced placements
- Assigning students to placements
- Managing the student in the placement (timesheets, supervisors, reports, etc)
- Integration with University Student Record and Finance systems provides exchange of key data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
The system has many user configurable features including the ability to create data attributes for specific disciplines and faculties, and a sophisticated rules engine to support the automatic allocation of students to places.
InPlace is a fully browser based .NET application which enables the automation of much of the business processing to reduce costs and eliminate errors. System users including university staff and academics, employer representatives (hospitals, schools, businesses etc) and students can log on from anywhere and participate in the process.
The typical placement life cycle or process can take this shape;
